World People and Religion Congress

Representatives of the most important global religions debated
for three days in Cracow during the international „People and Religion”
congress. The congress’ organization was initialized jointly by the
Italian Sant’Egidio Community and the Cracow Archdiocese. Event-factory
provided technical and logistic support for selected events during the
congress.

Over 500 honored guests representing various denominations and
religions such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and many less known
and less proliferated such as Jainism, Parsism, Shintoism as well as
clerics from the Catholic Orthodox, Catholic and other eastern churches
arrived in Cracow to take part in the event. The creator of this
groundbreaking concept was John Paul II, who in 1986 orchestrated the
first meeting of world religions which took place in Assisi. The
organization of the Cracow congress is to tie in to this momentous event
and call on the spirit of dialogue and ecumenism. The meeting confirmed
the major role played by such events and congresses in the struggle for
peace and global dialogue. Apart from clerics and dignitaries
representing various churches, Cracow was also visited by 2000 young
people from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Great
Britain, Japan and India. These young people, as well as politicians,
scientists and journalists met at this event to discuss the social and
cultural problems of today’s world and the role of religion in solving
them.
The congress was inaugurated with Mass at the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy
in Łagiewniki. The official opening ceremony took place at the
Auditorium Maximum of the Jagielonnian University, where 1000 people
participated in the conference session. Over the next several days over
20 conference panels were organized at various Cracow locations, both in
religious and ŚWIECKI venues.

The last day of the meeting was reserved for a visit to Oświęcim,
where a March of Memory was held at the former Auschwitz-Birkenau
concentration camp. The congress was closed with a meeting at the Main
Square which was combined with a Call for Peace 2009.

Cracow is an ever more popular congress tourism destination on the
world map. Despite the still serious shortcomings of the hotel base as
well as the lack of a large conference center, Cracow is a very
important location for organizing events of this type not only in Poland
but also in Europe. The year 2009 has been very special for
event-factory as far the number of projects such as the organization and
servicing of congresses; suffice to mention such projects as the NATO
defense minister ‘s conference or the organization of the Karcher World
Congress. Despite the widely publicized global crisis the organization
of company events, conferences and conventions by the event-factory
agency is doing very well. Maybe this „global crisis pandemic” will have
beneficial results, because even though such services in Poland have
reached the highest level of quality and meet all global standards, they
have not yet reached European level process. We are still less
expensive. And this is also a source of the success of the business
tourism industry in Poland during the global crisis. Corporations
wishing to save money organize their conventions and company meetings or
vents in Poland, and especially in Cracow, and hopefully as frequently
as possible at event-factory, where at an optimal cost level they have a
maximum effect guarantee.
